Yoga for Beginners

Hello, beginner yogi! Looks like you’ve come to the right place.

Okay, so what’s all this fuss about yoga? Will it really decrease the stress of my cluttered life or enable me to touch my toes? Hmm, maybe yes, maybe no. But here’s the thing. Yoga is not a miracle but a practice and this practice has many benefits.

Does yoga need to be all serious and Zen? Again, it can, but it can also have lightness and remind us how it feels to be new to something. And how exciting to enter that space of newness! Yoga can be all the things that you may have heard, but most of all, yoga is individual to you. I would love to introduce you to this practice and begin to build something with you that is strong and resilient, kind and compassionate.

I love working with beginners and I would be honored to work with you!

  • "From the very first time I rolled out my yoga mat in Sarah’s class, I already felt welcome. The clock read 7 am. I found a spot on the floor and Sarah got busy guiding us. In the dark, cold, and rainy hours of a San Francisco winter morning, she brought a spark of warmth and laughter to the beginning of the day. Sixty minutes later, I knew I had found a new home. That 7 am crack-of-dawn class at Mission Cliffs became a North Star to my yoga practice and something I look forward to every week. She teaches from the heart, encouraging every student to explore a little further and smile a lot more."

  • “I came to the class as a complete yoga novice, never having tried it before. Sarah is very friendly and welcoming. Her teaching style is encouraging and supportive and the classes are easily followed with her concise verbal cues. New poses are broken down and explained and Sarah will ask us to try them but never pushes us to go beyond our own capabilities. Modifications are given as options when things are just not quite right for us individually. It is great to be able to partake in a live online yoga class with instant feedback for improvement. My flexibility and strength have improved with the regular classes and I find the breathing techniques she teaches are useful outside of class when stress starts to build.”

  • “I'm not really a yoga person but I've done three of Sarah's classes now and these are really great. I love that they are flowing and challenging without being discouraging. It feels like she captures the best parts of yoga for me (feeling grounded in my body) without too much of the "extra" yoga stuff (that always makes yoga classes drag for me).”

  • “Sarah creates a community in every class. Every pose is challenging, fun and accessible to all. In the two years I have practiced with Sarah I have gotten stronger, more flexible and found new contentment in my life.”

  • “I love Sarah's classes! She brings customization and challenge along with humor and good cheer. In addition to a very helpful, technical approach to the physical aspects of yoga, she also has great knowledge and an excellent approach to the yin and yang (sorry to mix cultural references) philosophy of yoga.”
